Lactips and SmartSolve Unveil Water-Soluble Packaging for Beauty and Personal Care Markets
Lactips and SmartSolve have introduced a new generation of water-soluble packaging solutions aimed at reducing reliance on fossil-based plastics in the beauty, cosmetics, and personal care sectors. The companies showcased their latest developments at the Edition Spéciale by Luxe Pack exhibition in Paris.
The newly developed packaging concepts are based on SmartSolve’s PureNil 0, a functionalised bio-based paper designed to dissolve rapidly in water after use. According to the companies, the material breaks down without leaving behind microplastic residues, offering a sustainable alternative to conventional single-use packaging.
The partnership combines Lactips’ expertise in bio-based, water-soluble, and biodegradable polymers with SmartSolve’s technology for water-soluble paper materials. Together, the companies are working to advance circular packaging solutions that can help reduce packaging waste and environmental impact.
Bertrand Dupeyroux, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Lactips, said that water-soluble materials capable of dissolving without generating microplastics could significantly reshape the future of single-use packaging, particularly within the beauty and cosmetics industries. He noted that the collaboration demonstrates how innovative materials can be transformed into commercially viable packaging solutions.
Jonathan Jakubowski, CEO and co-founder of SmartSolve, highlighted Lactips’ role in accelerating the development of plastic-free packaging innovations. He said the partnership supports SmartSolve’s vision of creating packaging solutions that do not contribute to long-term waste streams.
The companies view the launch as the first step in a broader collaboration focused on expanding the adoption of fossil-free packaging technologies worldwide. Future plans include developing additional applications based on water-soluble materials for a range of consumer packaging needs.
