EFI Group Invests in Pulp Master Expansion to Boost Eco Packaging Production

EFI Group has announced plans to expand its Pulp Master plant-based pulp packaging facility, with the second phase of the project scheduled to begin operations in the first quarter of 2028. The expansion will double the plant’s annual production capacity from 50 million to 100 million packaging units.

According to EFI Group founder Ihor Liski, the project is being financed through a combination of founder investments and bank credit, allowing the company to scale production in phases while maintaining steady growth.

Pulp Master was developed as an export-focused business from the outset, with more than 90% of its packaging products intended for international markets. The company estimates that Ukraine’s domestic demand for this type of sustainable packaging would reach only around 10 million units annually, making exports the primary growth driver.

At present, the facility sources its raw materials from Europe and Asia. Sugarcane fiber from Asia is mainly used for disposable tableware due to its suitability for the product category. EFI Group plans to gradually optimize its raw material mix while working toward a long-term goal of producing pulp in Ukraine using agricultural residues and fruit-processing by-products.

The first phase of the €5 million Pulp Master project recently began operations in Zhytomyr, marking EFI Group’s fourth sustainable packaging venture. Unlike its previous three facilities, which rely on recycled paper, Pulp Master specializes in molded pulp packaging made from plant-based fibers.

Founded in 2007, EFI Group manages investments across healthcare, packaging, food processing, woodworking, and agricultural supply chains, with businesses including Feednova, Beehive, Zhytomyr Cardboard Mill, Sem Ecopack, Forest Technology, EFI Agro, and Doc.ua.
