ITP Technology Powers WorldStar 2026 Award-Winning Sustainable Packaging Solution
ITP – Industria Termoplastica Pavese (ITP) has announced its technological contribution to PaperSeal® Shape, an innovative paperboard packaging solution developed by Graphic Packaging International that has received a prestigious WorldStar Global Packaging Award 2026.
The award-winning packaging solution is designed for fresh and chilled foods, combining a paperboard tray with a functional liner to significantly reduce plastic consumption while maintaining food protection and shelf-life performance.
According to Graphic Packaging, PaperSeal® Shape can reduce plastic content by up to 72–82% compared with conventional plastic packaging alternatives. The solution also provides strong barriers against oxygen, moisture, and grease while remaining compatible with existing packaging equipment.
A key component of the packaging system is ITP’s PaperG, a self-adhesive coextruded film engineered for direct application to paper and paperboard substrates without the use of adhesives or solvents. Built on a PE/EVOH structure, the material delivers customizable gas-barrier properties, food-contact compliance, mechanical strength, and thermal stability.
PaperG is suitable for a variety of food packaging applications, including modified atmosphere packaging (MAP), skin packaging, and microwave-ready formats. The material’s thermoformability enables its use across multiple packaging designs and product categories.
ITP also highlighted the material’s end-of-life advantages. The film is designed to remain securely bonded to the paperboard during use but can be separated under specific conditions after disposal, supporting recycling and waste-sorting processes.
The WorldStar recognition underscores growing industry efforts to develop lower-impact packaging solutions through collaboration across the packaging value chain. The awards, organized by the World Packaging Organisation, are widely regarded as a benchmark for packaging excellence. The 2026 competition recognized 234 projects from 36 countries.
The latest achievement follows another international success for ITP, which received a WorldStar award in 2025 for its FreezyPeel packaging solution. The company continues to focus on developing high-performance films and sustainable materials for flexible and rigid food packaging applications.
