UFlex Secures Patent for Reclosable Packaging with Tamper Detection Technology
Innovation combines tamper evidence, secure reclosure, and advanced barrier protection for large-format flexible packaging
Noida, India: UFlex has been granted an Indian patent for its innovative reclosable flexible packaging solution featuring an integrated tamper detection mechanism and enhanced barrier properties for large-format bags. The patented packaging is designed to improve product safety, freshness, and consumer confidence across a wide range of industries.
The solution is suitable for products such as pet food, coffee, protein supplements, flour, pharmaceutical ingredients, fertilizers, chemicals, and other industrial goods that require repeated opening and secure resealing.
The packaging incorporates a thin protective layer beneath the zipper, preventing access to the contents until the layer is removed or torn. This provides a clear visual indication of any tampering before purchase. Once opened, the integrated zipper enables secure reclosure while maintaining protection against moisture, gases, contaminants, and other environmental factors.
According to UFlex, the combination of tamper evidence, barrier protection, and reliable reclosure differentiates the solution from conventional reclosable flexible packaging available in the market.
Jeevaraj Gopal Pillai, President of Flexible Packaging and New Product Development at UFlex, said packaging for large-format products must offer more than containment.
“As products are increasingly sold in large-format packs, packaging must do much more than simply contain the product. It must protect product integrity throughout its lifecycle while giving consumers confidence that the packaging is secure and has not been opened before purchase,” he said.
Pillai added that the innovation is particularly valuable for products susceptible to tampering, product substitution, and counterfeiting, helping brands protect product authenticity, strengthen consumer trust, and safeguard brand reputation.
UFlex noted that products such as pet food and protein powders are often opened and resealed multiple times over several weeks. Its patented solution addresses this challenge by combining product security, convenience, and long-term freshness in a single packaging format.
The company also stated that the barrier properties can be customized to meet the protection requirements of different products. As an integrated solution, the design eliminates the need for additional sealing components, making it both practical and cost-effective for manufacturers.
The patent further strengthens UFlex’s portfolio of packaging innovations following the recent launch of its CeruFlex 500 high-speed gravure printing machine at PlastIndia 2026, developed in collaboration with Italian technology partner Gravtech.
