STI Group has introduced a new fiber-based packaging solution for laundry detergent pods, aiming to address growing industry demands for sustainability, child safety, and cost efficiency in personal care and household packaging.
The innovative “Click-Box” combines protective functionality with environmentally friendly materials, offering brands an alternative to conventional plastic packaging formats.
According to the company, the Click-Box is designed as a simplified and resource-efficient advancement of existing packaging concepts. Made from a single piece of corrugated board, the packaging reduces material consumption while also helping manufacturers lower production and energy costs. STI Group stated that the solution was developed to meet the increasing pressure on brands to deliver safer and more sustainable packaging without compromising performance or convenience.
One of the key features of the Click-Box is its smart structural design. The packaging can include two separate internal compartments when required, allowing better organization and separation of products. In addition, the box is supplied in a flat-pack format, helping filling operations save storage space and improve transportation efficiency during logistics and distribution.
A major highlight of the packaging is its child-resistant functionality. The Click-Box incorporates a tamper-evident opening system and a resealable closure mechanism that does not require additional labels or plastic components. An integrated snap-lock system ensures that the package remains securely closed even after repeated use, helping prevent accidental access by children while maintaining ease of use for adults.
STI Group emphasized that safety was a core focus during the development process. Laundry detergent pods have raised safety concerns globally due to their colorful appearance and concentrated chemical content, making child-resistant packaging increasingly important for manufacturers and regulators alike.
The packaging also features a special water-based barrier coating that protects the contents from moisture and humidity. Since detergent pods are hygroscopic and can dissolve when exposed to moisture, the barrier layer plays a critical role in maintaining product quality and shelf life. Despite this protective coating, the packaging remains fully recyclable and can be disposed of through standard paper recycling streams after use.
With sustainability becoming a major priority across the packaging industry, fiber-based alternatives are gaining momentum as brands seek to reduce plastic waste and improve recyclability. STI Group’s Click-Box reflects the broader shift toward circular packaging solutions that combine safety, functionality, and environmental responsibility in a single design.
