SalzburgMilch Launches SIG DomeMini Aseptic Carton Bottles for On-the-Go Milk in Europe

SalzburgMilch has become the first company in Europe to commercially launch milk products in SIG’s DomeMini aseptic carton bottle, marking the debut of the SIG DomeMini 12 Aseptic filling line in the European market.

The new packaging format is designed to meet growing demand for convenient, sustainable, and on-the-go beverage packaging while significantly reducing plastic use compared to traditional plastic bottles.

According to Vanessa Bogner, Marketing Manager D-A-CH at SIG, the SIG DomeMini carton is primarily made from FSC-certified paperboard and, in one customer application, uses more than 80% less plastic than the plastic bottle it replaced.

The first products introduced in the new format are SalzburgMilch’s popular children’s milk beverages, with additional dairy and beverage products already under development for launch in the coming months.

Designed for Convenience and Sustainability

SIG DomeMini is intended for ultra-high temperature (UHT) beverages, including milk, protein drinks, plant-based beverages, and meal replacement products.

Its distinctive bottle-shaped carton combines:

  • Easy on-the-go handling
  • Large resealable closure for convenience
  • Strong shelf differentiation
  • High share of renewable materials
  • Significantly reduced plastic content

The packaging is produced using renewable electricity, further supporting lower environmental impact.

High-Speed Aseptic Filling Technology

The SIG DomeMini 12 Aseptic filling line can produce up to 12,000 cartons per hour and supports seven pack sizes ranging from 180 ml to 350 ml. Manufacturers can switch between volumes in approximately 15 minutes, providing flexibility for multiple product formats.

SIG believes the successful commercial rollout with SalzburgMilch will encourage more dairy and plant-based beverage manufacturers across Europe to adopt the innovative carton bottle format.

The launch follows SIG’s earlier expansion of DomeMini packaging into Southeast Asia for nutrition drinks and Brazil for yogurt products, further strengthening the company’s sustainable beverage packaging portfolio.
