HexcelPack has teamed up with ARMOR Protective Packaging to launch ARMOR WRAP HexcelWrap VCI Paper, a new packaging solution designed for the safe transport and storage of metal components.
The packaging combines HexcelPack’s expandable cushioning paper technology with ARMOR’s Vapour Corrosion Inhibitor (VCI) nanotechnology to provide both physical and corrosion protection for metal parts.
Developed from renewable Kraft paper, the material is fully recyclable and repulpable, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional foam, plastic and wooden packaging materials.
According to the companies, the wrap is capable of protecting products from corrosion, vibration and impact damage during shipping. It can also replace certain internal crate cushioning materials and may reduce the need for foam inserts, blocking and bracing in heavy equipment shipments.
The solution is designed for easy application without tooling requirements and is compatible with automated packaging operations, including HexcelCrate robotic wrapping systems that can be adjusted for different product sizes and shapes.
The companies stated that the material acts as both a cushioning and corrosion-resistant barrier while helping improve packing efficiency and speeding up crating operations.
The wrap can function as protective wrapping, void-fill and side-impact cushioning in a single material, reducing the need for multiple packaging components. Its flexible structure allows it to conform to irregularly shaped products and fill empty spaces efficiently, which may help lower packaging volume and packing time on production lines.
By incorporating ARMOR’s VCI technology, the paper also provides corrosion protection for both ferrous and non-ferrous metals, eliminating the need for oils or additional anti-corrosion treatments.
