Assam Packaging Industry, based in Tinsukia, Upper Assam, has installed a Kodak Computer-to-Plate (CTP) system at its production facility, marking a key technology upgrade in its printing operations.
The installation was carried out in collaboration with Insight Print Communications, the company’s technology partner.
According to the company, the new CTP system has improved overall production efficiency, particularly in terms of dot accuracy, output consistency, and workflow speed. The facility is currently achieving screen resolutions between 175 and 210 LPI for commercial printing applications such as magazines, calendars, book covers, and promotional materials. Kodak Sonora plates are being used in the production process.
Rajarshi Gogoi, Managing Partner of Assam Packaging Industry, emphasized the importance of strong technical support alongside advanced machinery. He noted that long-term performance depends not only on equipment quality but also on reliable after-sales service and operational guidance.
The company’s origins date back to 1978, when the late Hemo Kumar Gogoi, a printing technology graduate from Jadavpur University and former production head at The Statesman in Kolkata, established Assam Paper Industry at Borguri Industrial Estate. The original venture operated until 1997, when it was shut down due to financial challenges.
In 2001, Rajarshi Gogoi restarted the business from the same premises at the age of 19, without external funding or an established workforce. Over the past two decades, the company has expanded into a recognized printing and packaging operation in Upper Assam. It now operates two production units spanning around 23,000 square feet and employs approximately 65 permanent staff, with additional workers hired during peak demand periods.
In 2025, the company launched a monocarton manufacturing unit to serve growing packaging demand across sectors such as tea, spices, garments, sweets, jewelry, food products, and customized packaging solutions. The company reports increasing demand for packaging solutions across the North-Eastern region.
The production facility is equipped with offset printing presses along with CTCP systems, UV coating units, lamination machines, die-cutting equipment, programmable cutting systems, and design software tools, with the newly installed Kodak CTP system strengthening its pre-press capabilities.
Assam Packaging Industry has also received the ZED Bronze certification under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India. The certification recognizes adherence to Zero Defect Zero Effect manufacturing practices, focusing on quality control, waste reduction, and workplace safety.
Before selecting Kodak’s solution, the company evaluated several CTP systems based on output quality, workflow efficiency, resolution capability, and consistency in production. Installation and operator training were supported by the North-East technical team of the vendor.
Gogoi stated that image reproduction quality has improved significantly, especially in detailed areas, and that production workflows have become smoother and more streamlined. He added that earlier operational delays have been reduced due to better process integration.
The company also reported increasing inquiries from Assam as well as neighboring states including Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, reflecting growing demand for its packaging solutions.
