ProAmpac Develops Fiber-Based Tray for Circle K’s Flamin’ Hot Chicken Wings

ProAmpac has developed a custom fiber-based foodservice tray for Circle K’s Flamin’ Hot Boneless Chicken Wings, launched in collaboration with PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay.

The packaging solution was designed to address key challenges associated with hot-held food, including heat retention, moisture control, grease resistance and product presentation. According to ProAmpac, the tray is customized to match the recipe and portion size of the chicken wings while helping maintain product quality in heated foodservice displays.

The project began after Circle K sought a packaging solution capable of extending hot hold time while preserving the taste and texture of the product. ProAmpac worked with the retailer to optimize PepsiCo’s initial packaging concept and develop a structure that combines fiber-based materials with functional performance.

“Successful food innovation depends on more than great flavor; it requires packaging that protects product quality from the kitchen to the customer,” said Adam Grose, Executive Vice President at ProAmpac.

Gary Brant, Vice President of Foodservice at Circle K, said the objective was to create packaging that could maintain food quality while delivering a more compelling presentation for customers.

ProAmpac says the solution demonstrates how material science, structural design and foodservice packaging expertise can be combined to improve both product performance and retail presentation.

The development reflects the growing demand for fiber-based foodservice packaging that can deliver functional performance while supporting evolving packaging requirements across convenience stores and prepared-food markets.
