Lavazza Unveils Capsule-Free Coffee Tabs for the US Market

Italian coffee brand Lavazza has introduced Tablì, an innovative single-serve coffee format that eliminates the need for capsules, individual wrappers, or additional coatings. The new product is set to launch in the United States in August 2026, marking a significant step forward in sustainable coffee packaging innovation.

Unlike conventional coffee pods, each Tablì tab is made entirely from compressed coffee. Using proprietary technology developed over five years of research and development, Lavazza transforms precisely measured ground coffee into solid, ready-to-brew tabs without requiring extra packaging materials.

The uniquely designed concave tab expands during brewing, creating what Lavazza calls Crema Plus – a rich, velvety crema intended to replicate the quality of a traditional espresso. The format also allows consumers to see, smell, and handle the coffee before brewing, offering a more sensory coffee experience.

To complement the new format, Lavazza has developed the Tablì Machine, featuring a bean-shaped one-touch slider, integrated milk frother, and dedicated storage compartment for coffee tabs.

Lavazza views Tablì as a key element of its North American growth strategy, with more than 15 patents protecting the technology. At launch, consumers will be able to choose from five coffee varieties: Super Crema, Espresso, Double Espresso, Lungo, and Decaf.

According to Daniele Foti, Vice President of Marketing at Lavazza North America, Tablì removes the traditional compromise between convenience and quality while offering a more immersive coffee experience. He described the US as one of the world’s most dynamic coffee markets and emphasized that the launch represents Lavazza’s strongest commitment to the region to date.

The introduction of Tablì comes amid growing industry focus on reducing packaging waste associated with single-serve coffee systems. By removing capsules entirely, Lavazza aims to address sustainability concerns while maintaining the convenience consumers expect from single-serve brewing solutions.

The product will initially be available through Lavazza’s US website, with expansion to Amazon planned later in 2026.
