Interpack 2026 Highlights Packaging Industry’s Rapid Transformation

The global packaging industry sent a strong message at interpack 2026 — the future of packaging transformation is already taking shape. Over seven days, the Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre became a global hub for innovation, bringing together industry leaders, technology providers, and manufacturers to showcase practical solutions, strategic collaborations, and next-generation processing and packaging technologies.

Launched on May 7, interpack 2026 emerged as the largest edition in the event’s history, featuring 2,804 exhibitors from 65 countries. Organizers reported that visitors from 161 countries attended the trade fair, with nearly 75 per cent arriving from outside Germany and 28 per cent representing overseas markets. The United States recorded a particularly strong presence with 92 exhibitors, including 14 companies participating through the US Pavilion organized by Messe Düsseldorf North America. Around 100 companies also took part in “components,” the co-located supplier trade fair.

Speaking at the close of the exhibition, Thomas Dohse, director of interpack, described the event as a major success, emphasizing the strong visitor turnout, meaningful industry discussions, and the number of concrete business projects initiated during the exhibition. He noted that interpack continues to reinforce its position as one of the most significant global platforms for the packaging industry.

Throughout the event, exhibition halls remained highly active as companies engaged in focused discussions that often translated into real business opportunities and investment decisions. Live demonstrations across the entire packaging value chain provided attendees with practical insights into integrated manufacturing and packaging solutions operating in real-world conditions.

Automation, intelligent data-driven applications, and flexible manufacturing systems stood out as central themes at interpack 2026. Technologies once considered emerging trends are now becoming standard industry practices. Exhibitors demonstrated how connected production systems and real-time analytics are helping manufacturers improve efficiency, minimize waste, and strengthen quality control processes.

Sustainability also remained a major focus area. Companies showcased recyclable packaging materials, environmentally responsible alternatives, and circular economy solutions designed to meet both regulatory requirements and market expectations while maintaining operational performance and cost efficiency.

The growing adoption of smart and networked manufacturing systems has also increased the need for workforce upskilling. Discussions at the event highlighted the importance of preparing employees for advanced production technologies and equipping them with the skills required for the future of packaging manufacturing.
