Uber Eats has partnered with Releaf Paper, a Ukrainian company, to introduce sustainable food packaging made from fallen leaves in Paris. The innovative bags will be used in restaurants across the city, with the option to order them via the Green Packaging Marketplace on Uber Eats.
Releaf Paper, co-founded by Oleksandr Sobolenko and Valentyn Frechka in 2020, produces paper products using leaves collected from city streets. This reduces deforestation and cuts carbon emissions, aligning with Uber’s strategy to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040.
Releaf Paper’s journey began in Zhytomyr and Lutsk, Ukraine, where they developed technology to convert fallen leaves into eco-paper. While the company currently outsources production, it has expanded into European markets. Releaf Paper has also received grant support from Ukrainian Google, helping to advance its mission of creating sustainable packaging solutions.
Looking ahead, the initiative is expected to expand to other cities as both companies continue their efforts to reduce plastic waste globally.
