DS Smith has introduced new corrugated cardboard trays for automotive headlights through its Tecnicarton division, offering a sustainable alternative to conventional expanded polypropylene (EPP) packaging solutions.
The newly developed DS Smith Tecnicarton Corrugated Cardboard Trays are designed to ensure the safe transportation and storage of automotive headlights. Made entirely from corrugated cardboard, the trays feature a double fingerprint die-cut design that securely positions both lightweight and heavy headlights, helping to prevent damage during handling, transit, and warehousing.
The trays are also stackable, enabling better space optimisation during storage and logistics operations. In addition, they can be incorporated into larger packaging systems to accommodate a greater number of products when required.
According to the company, the cardboard trays serve as an effective alternative to returnable plastic packaging, particularly during emergencies or supply chain disruptions caused by vehicle issues, software failures, or unforeseen global events.
DS Smith Tecnicarton specialises in packaging solutions for the automotive and industrial sectors, focusing on both single-use and returnable packaging options to improve logistics efficiency for sensitive and bulky products.
DS Smith Tecnicarton Commercial Director Antonio Cebrián stated that the corrugated cardboard trays can be produced rapidly while delivering the same protection standards as traditional plastic packaging solutions.
He added that the company aims to provide customers in the automotive sector with a flexible, cost-effective packaging option featuring low tooling costs and global usability for transportation and logistics operations.
Cebrián further emphasised the company’s commitment to supporting customers in achieving their sustainability and circular economy goals.
