Pregis Acquires MP Global Packaging’s Cold Chain Business to Expand Fiber-Based Solutions
Pregis has acquired the cold chain and thermal packaging business of MP Global Packaging, strengthening its portfolio of fiber-based packaging solutions for temperature-sensitive shipping applications. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The acquisition adds paper-based thermal packaging technology to Pregis’ existing protective packaging portfolio and supports its strategy of expanding sustainable and recyclable packaging solutions.
The acquired business manufactures paper-based thermal packaging designed to protect temperature-sensitive products while offering a fiber-based alternative to conventional insulation materials. The solutions are designed to be curbside recyclable where appropriate collection programs are available.
As part of the transaction, Pregis will take over operations at manufacturing facilities in New Albany, Indiana, and Norfolk, Nebraska, along with approximately 110 employees. The company plans to continue supporting existing customers while investing in production capacity and technology development.
Expanding Fiber-Based Cold Chain Packaging
The acquisition strengthens Pregis’ position in the growing cold chain packaging market, which serves industries such as food, healthcare and pharmaceuticals. The acquired technology uses macerated cardboard to produce thermal insulation, providing a fiber-based option for temperature-controlled shipping.
The business complements Pregis’ existing paper-based cold chain initiatives as demand increases for packaging solutions that combine thermal performance with improved recyclability.

Building on the EverTec Strategy
Pregis plans to apply a similar expansion strategy to the acquired cold chain business as it did following its 2020 acquisition of EverTec paper mailer technology.
Since that acquisition, Pregis has expanded EverTec into a business producing more than one billion paper mailers annually across five dedicated manufacturing facilities. The company intends to make comparable investments to increase the scale and market reach of its fiber-based thermal packaging platform.
Reid Borgman, who previously led the MP Global Packaging division, will join Pregis as vice president and general manager of Cold Chain and continue overseeing the business.

The acquired business will continue operating from its existing facilities in Indiana and Nebraska while Pregis works with employees, customers and suppliers during the integration process.
The acquisition further expands Pregis’ fiber-based packaging capabilities as brands and supply chains increasingly look for recyclable and sustainable solutions for temperature-sensitive products.
