Stahl Updates Sensora Haptic Coatings Portfolio for Packaging

Specialty coatings manufacturer Stahl has updated its Sensora portfolio, a range of haptic coatings designed to add tactile effects to packaging materials.

Sensora coatings are developed for paper and board, narrow-web and flexible packaging, serving both food and non-food applications. The portfolio offers finishes ranging from soft and velvety to smooth, silky, rubber-like and textured, allowing brands to create distinctive packaging experiences.

The range includes water-based and energy-curable coating systems, with options for matte, soft-touch and other tactile effects.

Several Sensora products are also available with food-contact compliance options, including certifications and requirements aligned with Swiss and German Ink Ordinances, as well as ISEGA and EuPIA standards.

Enhancing Packaging Through Touch

Paul Grzebielucha, Group Director of Packaging Coatings at Stahl, said Sensora enables brands to use tactile differentiation to create premium packaging experiences.

By combining tactile effects with established coating performance, the company aims to help packaging manufacturers increase consumer engagement and reinforce brand identity.

Stahl to Be Acquired by Henkel

The Sensora portfolio update comes as Stahl prepares for a major ownership change. Earlier this year, Netherlands-based Stahl Group agreed to be acquired by German chemicals company Henkel in a deal valued at approximately €2.1 billion, subject to regulatory approvals.

Stahl employs around 1,700 people and reported adjusted sales of approximately €725 million for fiscal 2025.

The company is currently owned by Wendel (68.5%), BASF (16.1%) and Clariant (14.6%).

Stahl supplies specialty coatings across several industries, including packaging, automotive, fashion and lifestyle, with its latest Sensora developments aimed at helping brands differentiate packaging through touch and surface effects.
