Huel Introduces High-Protein Ramen in Plastic Cup with Separable Cardboard Wrap

Huel has partnered with Greiner Packaging to introduce its High Protein Ramen Noodle Cups in K3 packaging, combining a plastic container with a detachable cardboard wrap to reduce plastic use and improve convenience.

The K3 cup is designed so that the plastic container and cardboard wrap can be separated after use, allowing each component to enter the appropriate recycling stream. For Huel, the cardboard wrap also provides structural support, enabling the use of thinner plastic walls compared with conventional printed plastic cups.

The packaging is designed specifically for hot meal applications, with the cardboard wrap providing additional thermal insulation. This allows consumers to prepare and eat the ramen directly from the cup while making the container more comfortable to handle.

Huel has selected a premium printed cardboard wrap featuring vibrant graphics, high-quality printing and UV spot varnish. Beyond strengthening the product’s shelf presence, the wrap provides additional space for product information and preparation instructions while maintaining Huel’s visual identity.

“We chose Greiner Packaging’s K3 packaging because it offers the perfect combination of premium shelf impact and consumer convenience,” said Tim Urch, Senior Marketing Manager at Huel. He added that the cardboard wrap provides additional insulation while helping the noodle range stand out in stores.

The High Protein Ramen range will initially launch exclusively at Tesco stores across the UK. Huel says the launch is the first step in its plans to expand the range.

Greiner Packaging’s K3 format is also being used by other food and beverage brands, including OMG Bubble Tea, which uses the separable cup-and-sleeve concept to enhance shelf appeal while maintaining its existing packaging and production processes.

The development highlights the growing adoption of hybrid packaging formats that combine plastic functionality with paperboard components to reduce plastic consumption, improve consumer convenience and support more efficient material separation.
