EICMA Takes GST Inverted Duty Structure Issue to West Bengal Finance Minister
The Eastern India Corrugated Box Manufacturers’ Association (EICMA) has taken another step in its ongoing advocacy for reforms to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) inverted duty structure affecting India’s corrugated packaging industry.
Mr. Achyut Chandra, Immediate Past President of EICMA, and Mr. Milan Dey, Past President of both the Federation of Corrugated Box Manufacturers (FCBM) and EICMA, met Dr. Swapan Dasgupta, Finance Minister of the Government of West Bengal, to discuss the industry’s concerns.
During the meeting, the EICMA representatives highlighted the challenges created by the existing GST inverted duty structure, particularly its impact on the working capital requirements and overall financial health of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) engaged in corrugated packaging manufacturing.
According to EICMA, the discussion was constructive, and the Finance Minister gave the matter a sympathetic hearing while indicating that he would take up the issue for further consideration.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to continued policy engagement with government stakeholders and stated that it will persist in advocating for a rational GST framework that strengthens the long-term sustainability, competitiveness, and growth of India’s corrugated packaging sector.
