Bobst Enhances Corrugated Folder-Gluers with Advanced Automation Features
Bobst has introduced a major upgrade to its Masterfold folder-gluer range, bringing advanced automation, connectivity, and safety enhancements to corrugated board converting operations. The modernization covers the Masterfold 170, 230, and 300 models, aiming to improve productivity while simplifying machine operation.
According to Bobst, the revamped machines incorporate new digital technologies and automation capabilities designed to streamline setup processes and enhance operator efficiency. A key feature of the upgrade is integration with the Bobst Connect platform, enabling converters to access machine data, remotely configure jobs, and optimize production workflows.
The system allows job parameters to be downloaded directly to the machine from the back office, while automated setup functions—including positioning of transport equipment, calibrating shafts, and folding section speed controls—help accelerate changeovers and reduce manual intervention.
Bobst reports that overall setup times can be shortened by up to 20 minutes, with automated positioning of transfer and delivery sections alone delivering up to 15 minutes of additional productive uptime for repeat jobs.
The company also highlighted that pre-configured production data can help lower operator workload and reduce the likelihood of human error, supporting more consistent production performance.
The latest development reflects the growing adoption of digitalization and automation across the packaging industry as manufacturers seek greater efficiency, lower operating costs, and improved responsiveness to shorter production runs and tighter delivery schedules.
Bobst noted that modern production environments increasingly require advanced automation tools to address workforce challenges, evolving customer expectations, and the need for faster turnaround times.
The launch follows earlier updates to the company’s Expertfold 145/165 series, which introduced enhanced digital job management and automated blank alignment capabilities.
