Parkside has strengthened its collaboration with Two Farmers by supplying industrially compostable flexible packaging for the launch of the brand’s new Herefordshire Sauce crisps.
This marks Two Farmers’ first permanent flavour addition in several years and represents a significant milestone in its renewed product development strategy for 2026, which places sustainability and innovation at its core.
The newly introduced packaging is manufactured using renewable feedstocks, offering a viable alternative to traditional petrochemical-based plastics. By reducing reliance on fossil-derived materials, the solution aligns with growing industry and consumer demand for environmentally responsible packaging. The material has undergone rigorous independent testing and has been accredited to meet internationally recognized industrial composting standards, ensuring its performance and environmental compliance.
At the end of its lifecycle, the packaging can be processed at industrial composting facilities, where it breaks down into natural components under controlled conditions. In regions where such facilities are not accessible, the packs can also be disposed of through conventional waste streams, subject to local authority regulations. In addition to compostability, the packaging carries carbon-neutral certification, further enhancing its sustainability profile and supporting broader carbon reduction goals.
Two Farmers, an artisan crisp producer based in Herefordshire, is known for its vertically integrated farming model, growing its own potatoes on family-run farms. The company has long prioritized sustainability, and its partnership with Parkside spans its entire crisp portfolio. This latest product launch builds on that relationship, extending the use of compostable packaging to a new SKU while maintaining the brand’s premium positioning.
The Herefordshire Sauce variant also features bold, high-quality print design that ensures strong shelf appeal. Despite the shift toward more sustainable materials, the packaging does not compromise on visual impact or performance, demonstrating that eco-friendly solutions can coexist with effective branding and consumer engagement.
Commenting on the development, Ian McManus, sales account manager at Parkside, highlighted that the project showcases the potential of modern packaging innovation. He emphasized that the combination of renewable materials, certified compostability, and vibrant print quality delivers a solution that performs effectively while upholding genuine sustainability credentials. According to him, the packaging successfully communicates the brand’s story while meeting the functional demands of the product.
The launch also coincides with further advancements in Two Farmers’ sustainability initiatives. The company has recently invested in a granulator system designed to process used compostable crisp packets by breaking them down into smaller fragments. These fragments are then combined with production waste and fed into an on-site anaerobic digestion facility. This process generates renewable energy, which can be reused within operations, thereby reducing waste and contributing to a circular economy model.
Through these combined efforts, Two Farmers continues to move closer to its zero-waste ambitions, demonstrating how integrated approaches to packaging, production, and waste management can drive meaningful environmental progress. The partnership with Parkside highlights how collaboration across the value chain can deliver innovative, scalable solutions that balance sustainability with commercial and branding requirements.
