Tetra Pak and Lund University Launch Biotech Heights to Advance Sustainable Innovation

Tetra Pak and Lund University have jointly launched Biotech Heights, a new innovation hub dedicated to advancing food and material biotechnology. The initiative aims to bring together start-ups, researchers, and industry players to collaborate on sustainable solutions while leveraging world-class expertise.

With global food systems responsible for over one-third of annual greenhouse gas emissions, and rising population levels placing additional strain on production and distribution, the need for innovative approaches has become increasingly urgent. Biotech Heights has been established to accelerate research, development, and commercialization efforts in response to these challenges.

The hub offers a collaborative platform focused on alternative food sources and next-generation materials. It enables participants to exchange knowledge, test new concepts, and scale solutions that could help reshape global food systems toward greater sustainability.

Marie Sandin, CEO of Tetra Pak Sweden, emphasized the importance of innovation in this space, noting that collaboration at Biotech Heights will play a key role in developing and expanding solutions for future systems.

The initiative builds on the long-standing partnership between Tetra Pak and Lund University, combining industry expertise with academic excellence. Lund University, consistently ranked among the world’s top 100 institutions and a leader in environmental and sustainability research, provides a strong foundation for driving advancements in biotechnology.

Annika Olsson, Dean of LTH at Lund University, highlighted that bringing together experts, infrastructure, and the region’s established food industry will help accelerate development and foster meaningful change across the sector.
