Clearwater Paper Corporation has announced the launch of Velora™, a next-generation lightweight folding carton paperboard developed to deliver consistent performance, improved yield, and cost efficiency for everyday packaging applications.
Velora™ is specifically engineered for converters and brand owners who require reliable packaging solutions without stepping into premium solid bleached sulfate (SBS) grades. Designed for both folding carton and foodservice uses, the paperboard combines strength, versatility, and reduced basis weight across a wide caliper range—making it a practical choice for high-volume, cost-sensitive packaging needs.
According to Arsen Kitch, president and CEO, Velora represents a strategic addition to the company’s expanding product portfolio. He emphasized that the new offering is purpose-built to deliver value, operational efficiency, and dependable converting performance. The product also complements the company’s premium Candesce® line, while providing customers with a competitive, domestically available option in the lightweight segment.
Highlighting market demand, Ruomeng Pang, vice president of marketing strategy and development, noted that converters are increasingly prioritizing simplicity and value—seeking materials that offer consistent performance, reliable supply, and lower cost per unit. Velora addresses these needs through an optimized fiber blend that enhances both strength and printability, while helping reduce overall material usage and packaging costs.
A key advantage of Velora lies in its lighter fiber structure, which supports material reduction initiatives and aligns with growing sustainability goals. By using less raw material without compromising performance, the product helps brand owners manage environmental commitments and navigate evolving regulatory requirements more effectively.
Manufactured in the United States using a combination of domestic and imported raw materials, Velora ensures supply chain stability and consistent lead times—an increasingly important factor for packaging producers facing global supply uncertainties.
In terms of compliance and safety, Velora meets essential food-contact, health, and environmental standards. It adheres to Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI®) fiber sourcing requirements and complies with FDA 21 CFR guidelines, making it suitable for a wide range of food packaging applications.
With Velora™, Clearwater Paper strengthens its position in the packaging materials market by offering a balanced solution that combines performance, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness—catering to the evolving needs of modern packaging converters and brand owners.
