A corrugated box plant in the Midwest was experiencing flooding in their lower corrugating roll.
Operating at 750 fpm, the single facer experienced high vibrations, causing the traditional bent tube syphon to “dance” and move erratically. When the syphon became unstable, it couldn’t maintain proper syphon clearance, leading to reduced condensate removal and cross-roll temperature variation. This resulted in poor quality board.
Kadant Johnson installed a rigid SuperCurve™ syphon secured with an LJX™ rotary joint and heavy-duty support rods. The SuperCurve syphon is manufactured from a thick-walled, single piece of seamless steel tubing, bent to meet the specific requirements of the application. Its robust design features a precisely engineered locking key that maintains syphon positioning inside the rotary joint.
The LJX rotary joint is designed to support the heavy duty SuperCurve syphon with the SecureLock™ retention plate, sustaining syphon stability by locking the syphon key into position. Kadant Johnson also upgraded the steam trap on the lower corrugating roll to efficiently evacuate condensate.
The LJX rotary joint and SuperCurve syphon system was able to maintain syphon clearance and efficiently remove condensate, even with the high vibrations of the single facer. After several months of operation and periodic evaluations, the customer eliminated flooding, maintained a uniform cross-roll temperature profile, and produced consistent, high-quality board.
