Remaining focused on its vision of sustainable economic development, Kruger is on track to develop a new storage facility that will position Trois-Rivières as a major circular economy hub in Québec.

Over the coming months, the Kruger Recycling Division will leverage the $16-M project to consolidate its collection and storage operations at its new site on chemin des Petites-Terres, in Trois-Rivières’ Pointe-du-Lac district, near Kruger Packaging’s Containerboard Mill, which is Québec’s leading paper and paperboard recycler. Covering one million square feet, or the equivalent of about 13 football fields, Kruger Recycling’s new operational centre will ensure a stable fibre supply for the containerboard mill, while reducing transportation-related GHG emissions.

“We already recycle 100% of the paper and paperboard collected from residential blue bins in Trois-Rivières,” explains Stéphanie Bouchard, General Manager, Recycled Fibres and Biomass, at Kruger Recycling. “The new site will be used to consolidate operations near our main customer, the Trois-Rivières Containerboard Mill, and to further develop our collection route with businesses and stores, which will make the region an important recycling hub in Québec.”

Strategically located at the entrance to the city and near busy highway corridors, the site will receive recycled material from Mauricie and other regions in Québec, as well as from eastern Ontario and the northern United States. Kruger is a recycling pioneer as it has been manufacturing 100% recycled containerboard and ecofriendly packaging since the early 1960s. In 2017, the Company invested more than $250M in its manufacturing facility on Gene H.

Kruger Boulevard to modernize its operations and give it a new future in the growing sector of 100% recycled lightweight and high-strength linerboard. The development of the new recycled materials storage facility is another step towards vertically integrating Kruger’s operations in Québec, ensuring optimal management of its recycled fibre supply. The Trois-Rivières Containerboard Mill alone recycles annually 450,000 tonnes of paper and old corrugated containers (OCC).
