Cortec® Corporation is a long-time proponent of corrosion solutions that reduce environmental impact. One of those eco-conscious methods of metals protection is , a corrosion inhibiting paper with a recyclable barrier coating.
Recently, Cortec® has taken this technology to the next level of sustainability with  a new version with the added benefit of a biodegradable, biobased barrier coating.
Sustainably Sourced Barrier Paper
It is hard to get much better than EcoBio™ VpCI®-144 Barrier Paper when it comes to sustainable sourcing. Starting with 100% recycled paper stock, Cortec® adds its time-tested VpCI® coating (biodegradable per ASTM D6400) to one side and a biobased (90-100% renewable organic carbons per ASTM D6866), biodegradable barrier coating to the other side. The paper does not contain any intentionally added plastics, PFAS, or fluorochemicals.
Corrosion Protection + Moisture/Grease Barrier
The result of this formula is corrosion inhibiting barrier paper that is perfect for protecting metals at risk for moisture exposure and corrosion. Users only need to wrap metal parts with the VpCI® coated side facing the metal, fold the edges of the paper together, and tape the paper to hold it in place. Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibitors from the internal coating diffuse throughout the package, forming a very thin, effective molecular layer of corrosion protection that does not alter the appearance of the metal. On the outside, the biobased, biodegradable barrier coating resists the entry of corrosive moisture and helps the packaging maintain integrity.
Good grease barrier properties also reduce the risk of grease from lightly oiled components leaching through the paper. EcoBio™ VpCI®-144 Barrier Paper can be used for wrapping or interleaving in countless metal packaging applications:
• Coils, wire reels, plate, bar
• Raw and machined forgings and castings
• Stampings, springs, bearings, fasteners, tubes, pipes
• And more!
Avoiding Pollution at the End of the Job
After use, clean, dry EcoBio™ VpCI®-144 Barrier Paper can be recycled through normal channels without the extra challenges that arise when reprocessing plastic coated or waxed papers. In addition, Cortec’s use of a biodegradable, biobased barrier coating has opened new possibilities for even more sustainable end-of-life disposal options (depending on local regulations). Whatever the case, EcoBio™ VpCI®– 144 Barrier Paper tackles corrosion protection + moisture/grease resistance while reducing the risk of pollution.
Eco-Conscious Packaging Continues to Grow
As industries explore new sustainability initiatives, Cortec® continues to expand its portfolio of eco-conscious packaging materials. If your company needs a barrier packaging option that fights corrosion, moisture, and pollution at the same time.
