New platform released at PACK EXPO to help the packaging industry meet its sustainability goals without compromising performance
at PACK EXPO International 2026 in Chicago, Archroma Packaging Technologies launches Erthana™, a biobased platform that helps brands, manufacturers and suppliers meet their sustainability goals without compromising packaging performance.
Archroma Packaging Technologies has developed Erthana™ to support the industry’s transition towards circular packaging and to stay ahead of developing EPR and PPWR requirements – in particular, in the paper and packaging value chain. The platform brings together bio-based chemistries, technical expertise and application support to help paper, packaging and tissue producers to adopt greener solutions with confidence.
The platform launches with two products: Erthana™ OGB, a biobased oil and grease barrier, and Erthana™ DSR, a biobased dry strength resin. Additional products in the biobased portfolio are in development and expected to follow in 2027 as the platform expands.
Erthana™ solutions are made from natural-source ingredients and they don’t compete with food chain, helping customers reduce their dependence on fossil-based chemistries while maintaining packaging functionality, product integrity and operational efficiency. Food-contact compliance and end-of-life performance were critical requirements from the start of development, and Erthana™ solutions are FDA, BfR and BPI compliant.
Lisa Clark, VP Marketing & Sustainability at Archroma Packaging Technologies, comments: “Packaging producers and brand owners are under growing pressure to move away from fossil-based materials and to comply with regulations such as the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) laws – all without sacrificing performance.”
“Erthana™ combines our sustainability ambitions with production-proven chemistry. It gives customers a practical way to meet these requirements and make real progress towards circular packaging. Ultimately, Erthana is sustainable chemistry made possible.”
