MM Board & Paper Launches Lightweight Kraft Paper for Packaging Applications

MM Board & Paper has introduced MM POLAR PLUS, a machine-finished bleached kraft paper designed for food and non-food packaging applications. Manufactured at the company’s mill in Kwidzyn, Poland, the new paper is available in grammages of 40, 45 and 50 g/m².

The lightweight kraft paper is aimed at converters and packaging manufacturers seeking material efficiency while maintaining consistent quality and reliable converting performance. It is suitable for a range of applications, including bakery bags, fast-food packaging, food wrapping papers, single-use pouches and small bags, as well as various non-food packaging formats.

Designed for Flexible Converting

MM POLAR PLUS can be used as a substrate for PE coating, film lamination and other barrier treatments. These additional treatments can provide properties such as grease, moisture and oxygen resistance, while the kraft paper offers the surface and processing characteristics required for subsequent conversion.

According to MM Board & Paper, the paper features a smooth surface and good formation, supporting reliable runnability across processes such as printing, coating, varnishing and bag making.

The range is manufactured from 100% ECF virgin fibres and includes options suitable for food-contact applications, expanding its potential use across the packaging sector.

Markus Nöcker, Vice-President Sales MM Board & Paper UFP and PKP, said the launch extends the MM POLAR family into lighter grammages and provides customers with greater flexibility for applications where material efficiency, converting performance and food-contact suitability are key requirements.

Expanding the Packaging Portfolio

The launch follows MM Board & Paper’s introduction of ALASKA BRIGHT NEW, a folding boxboard produced at MM Kotkamills in Finland. The board is designed for applications including cosmetics, dry food, healthcare, personal care and graphical products.

With MM POLAR PLUS, the company is further expanding its portfolio of lightweight paper-based materials aimed at meeting changing packaging requirements and supporting more efficient material use.
