New mono-material solution combines recyclability, post-consumer recycled content, and high-speed performance for sustainable wet wipes packaging
Mondi has introduced re/loop FlowWrap, a new flexible packaging solution for wet wipes that contains 35% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content and is designed to support the transition toward more circular packaging in the home and personal care sector. The launch is aimed at helping brands meet sustainability targets while maintaining packaging performance and operational efficiency.
The new form-fill-and-seal (FFS) packaging is made from mono-polypropylene (PP) and is designed to replace conventional non-recyclable laminate structures commonly used in wet wipes packaging. According to Mondi, the material is compatible with polypropylene mechanical recycling streams in line with CEFLEX D4ACE guidelines, supporting improved recyclability and resource recovery.
Extensive internal testing and customer trials demonstrated that re/loop FlowWrap delivers performance comparable to virgin-plastic alternatives, including reliable sealing, effective barrier protection, and smooth machinability. The solution can also run on existing packaging lines, enabling manufacturers to adopt the new material without major equipment modifications.
Mondi noted that the development aligns with upcoming regulatory requirements, including the European Union’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which sets a target of 35% recycled content for certain plastic packaging categories by 2030. With its 35% PCR content, the new packaging is positioned to help brands prepare for future compliance requirements.
External trials conducted on IMA Ilapak equipment confirmed strong performance at high production speeds for wet wipes applications. The packaging solution was also showcased live at the INDEX trade fair, highlighting its suitability for commercial-scale operations.
According to Mondi, re/loop FlowWrap demonstrates that wet wipes packaging can move closer to circularity without compromising product protection, machine efficiency, or consumer convenience. The launch further expands the company’s re/loop portfolio of sustainable packaging solutions designed to increase recycled content and improve recyclability across consumer goods applications
