Global paper and packaging leader Smurfit Westrock is investing nearly $19.3 million to expand its corrugated manufacturing facility in Saltillo, boosting production capacity and strengthening Mississippi\u2019s industrial footprint.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h5>\n

The expansion will add new equipment to convert flat container board into\u00a0\u00a0corrugated boxes<\/span>, increasing efficiency and enabling the production of larger packaging formats. Once complete, the upgrade is expected to improve output by 50 percent.<\/p>\n

Smurfit Westrock, headquartered in North America in Atlanta, produces sustainable\u00a0\u00a0corrugated packaging<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0solutions including standard cases, boxes and trays for a wide range of industries. The Saltillo facility plays a key role in the company\u2019s U.S. operations.<\/p>\n

Support for the project includes assistance from the Mississippi Development Authority through the Mississippi Flexible Tax Incentive (MFLEX) program, along with local support from Lee County. Construction is slated for completion by October 2026. State and local leaders praised the expansion as a win for Mississippi\u2019s manufacturing sector.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe decision by the Smurfit Westrock team to expand in Saltillo reinforces what so many already know \u2014 Mississippi is a manufacturing powerhouse,\u201d said Gov. Tate Reeves. \u201cAs long as companies like Smurfit Westrock continue to rely on Mississippi to get the job done right, we will continue showing the world what we can do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mississippi Development Authority Executive Director Bill Cork added, \u201cSmurfit Westrock\u2019s investment in Lee County is proof that Mississippi is where manufacturers win. Projects like this strengthen our communities, grow our economy and show the world we\u2019re a place where companies want to put down roots and thrive.\u201d<\/p>\n

Smurfit Westrock North America President and CEO Laurent Sellier said the expansion reflects the company\u2019s commitment to operational excellence and community partnership. \u201cThe expansion of the Saltillo facility demonstrates our ongoing collaboration with development partners in Mississippi, increases capacity and growth within our system, and supports the communities where we live and work,\u201d Sellier said.<\/p>\n

Local officials echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the economic impact and job creation potential. \u201cThe city of Saltillo is proud to support Smurfit Westrock as they expand their operations, strengthening our economy and creating opportunities for our workforce,\u201d said Mayor Copey Grantham.<\/p>\n

Lee County Board of Supervisors President Tommie Lee Ivy added, \u201cWe extend our gratitude to Smurfit Westrock for their continued confidence in Lee County and the opportunities this investment will create for our citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n
